This is my interpretation of St Michael's Mount, Cornwall. One of the most romantic places in Cornwall, a castle on a granite hill in a beautiful bay, surrounded by the sea.
I collect the sea glass on our beaches in Cornwall, including Marazion beach nearby, and incorporate it into the art to represent cobbles, rocks or water. Each piece of sea glass is unique and can take up to 40 years tumbling in the sea to create a really smooth opaque piece, making this unique.
These pieces take many hours to make and I have used a combination of french knots, seeds stitches and couch stitch to create the detail, even down to the little flag on top of the castle. For this piece, I used acrylics painted on to linen.
Etsy selling fees and taxes are high, and I am able to offer you a saving when you buy through my website. This piece measures 29.5cm x 29.5cm measured to outside of frame.
The frame was handmade by a framer in Foundry Chapel, Hayle and has been left open to allow you to touch a piece of Cornwall.
To create this art piece, I use acrylic paint on Bondaweb, fused to fabric to create an image which I embellish with embroidery, sea glass and beads.
