If you have been watching our channel for a while, you may have watched one of our 'Stay in Cornwall' vlogs. These vlogs are designed to give you an insight into the accommodation, the standard, and we suggest one or two walks that are local to the area - almost planning your trip for you!
At the beginning of the year we had plans to stay in varying types of accommodation. We filmed a couple of vlogs in March just before lockdown and felt it was not appropriate to release these until the restrictions were eased. Many of you left comments on these videos, telling us how disappointed you were that your plans had to be deferred or even cancelled. Our hearts went out to you all!
The restrictions also affected our plans, We had booked and paid for a stay at the Penventon Park Hotel, in Redruth for the beginning of June and we had to postpone. This was an agonising process because we were then not in a position to choose the room we wanted, rather to fit in around the hotel's availability. The hotel staff were so obliging and in the end we successfully stayed in the room we had chosen in the first place.
Whilst we were rebooking we asked if the hotel had made any changes to their cleaning process. They told us that they used a de-fogger, a machine that is placed in the room for about 10 minutes and kills any residual bugs and bacteria, although this had always been standard practice for them. This was very reassuring to know.
They also said that we would have a time slot for breakfast and it would be waitress service, so no idle perusing of the breakfast bar then!!
So what was it like?
Throughout the hotel, there were sanitising points and tasteful reminders of social distancing.
The room has been decluttered, all paper has been removed, the scatter cushions and mini bar were gone. It was so clean, unbelievably clean! It was so reassuring.
When we went down to breakfast in the morning, the tables were laid but covered with paper, presumably to prevent any aerosol transmission, removed when we sat at our table. Our experience was leisurely and it felt a bit special to have your breakfast order brought to you.
We also noticed how attentive the staff were after guests had left their table, changing all of the cutlery and crockery, table linen and cleaning the arms of the chairs and other touch points.
So in these difficult times, it is reassuring to know that there are things that can be done to help us to stay safe while in holiday accommodation. I hope your experience is the same!
